Sharapova defeats Peng in fourth round play

WIMBLEDON, England (AP)—Maria Sharapova has advanced to the Wimbledon quarterfinals by beating Peng Shuai of China 6-4, 6-2.

The fifth-seeded Russian, who won the 2004 title at the All England Club, broke for the first time to take a 5-4 lead in the first set Monday. From that break, she won seven straight games to take control.

Azarenka advances to Wimbledon quarterfinals

WIMBLEDON, England (AP)—Fourth-seeded Victoria Azarenka became the first player to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals, beating Nadia Petrova 6-2, 6-2 on Monday.

The Belarusian equaled her previous best performance at the All England Club, where she made it to the quarters in 2009 before losing to Serena Wlliams.

WIMBLEDON, England (AP)—Australian teenager Bernard Tomic has reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon with a 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 win over Xavier Malisse.

Tomic is the youngest player to reach the fourth round at the All England Club since Michael Chang in 1990. In the previous round, Tomic eliminated two-time French Open runner-up Robin Soderling.
